Governor Asa Hutchinson set a goal of conducting 190,000 covid-19 tests in August. In July, there were 194,836 tests done, short of the governor's goal of 200,000.

Arkansas received two shipments of antigen testing systems. Antigen tests produce results faster but are not as accurate as other tests. For that reason, the Health Department does not include results from antigen tests in its tally of cases, and recommends that people who test positive on an antigen test be referred for further tests.

The governor said schools should plan to open the week of Aug. 24 and be ready to adapt.
