Senator Jamie Scott represents District 12, which includes parts of Pulaski County on both the south and north sides of the Arkansas River. She was elected to the Senate in November 2024 and took the oath of office on the first day of the 2025 session. She is the youngest African-American female to be elected to the Arkansas Senate and to the Arkansas House of Representatives in 2018.
She is the Senate vice-chair of the Joint Performance Review Committee and a member of the Senate Agriculture, Forestry and Economic Development Committee. She also serves on the Senate Transportation, Technology and Legislative Affairs Committee, the Senate Ethics Committee and the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee.
Senator Scott is a graduate of North Little Rock High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Sociology and a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from Arkansas State University.
Senator Scott is a graduate of the John F. Kennedy Harvard School of Government Executive Education Authentic Leadership Program, the Council of State Government Henry Toll Fellowship Program, the Little Rock Chamber’s Leadership Greater Little Rock Class XVII, the Lead Arkansas Class XIII Leadership Program, and the distinguished Presidential Leadership Scholars Program hosted by the Clinton Foundation, George W. Bush Foundation, and Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation.
Senator Scott is the Executive Director of Youth Services.
During the 94th General Assembly, she sponsored the “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair (Crown) Act.” Act 514 of 2023 prevents discrimination based on hair styles in public schools and state colleges and universities. She sponsored Act 506 of 2023 that assists foster care and homeless students to transition to college by waiving fees for documents.
In past years, Senator Scott sponsored Act 1107 of 2021 that requires correctional and detention facilities to provide mammograms and prostate screenings to inmates and Act 991 of 2021 that ensures bail bond data transparency. She sponsored Act 635 of 2021 that allows colleges to designate a liaison to homeless and foster students. Act 622 of 2021 requires school resources officers to complete specialized training in de-escalation and youth mental health. Act 422 of 2021 prohibits solitary confinement for pregnant inmates and new mothers in correctional and juvenile facilities. Senator Scott sponsored Act 1020 of 2019 that protects children who are being trafficked from being prosecuted for prostitution and Act 971 of 2019 limits isolation or solitary confinement for juveniles.
Senator Scott is a 2019 Arkansas Business 40 under 40 honoree and Little Rock Soiree 2020 Women to Watch. Senator Scott is the 2021 recipient of the Council of State Governments 20 under 40 National Legislative Leadership Award, Arkansas Education Association Human and Civil Rights Special Achievement Award, Millennial Action Project’s 2021 Rising Star Award, Courageous Collaborator recipient from Americans for Prosperity, and Arkansas State University's Living Legend Award.
Senator Scott is the Vice-Chair of Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus, and the Executive Committee of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) as the Regional Chair for Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.
Senator Scott is a member of the Worship Center Church of God in Christ. She is an active Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority member.
